About
Right to Belong: addressing a global challenge
At Right to Belong, we work to address the urgent challenges faced by displaced communities. This includes the people who are often overlooked. These are refugees, stateless individuals and internally displaced persons. Our work spans advocacy, policy reforms, community support, and research and awareness. Our mission is simple: to ensure that displaced persons are no longer marginalised but are empowered to thrive, fully recognised and are able to enjoy the rights every human being deserves.
Right to be Belong is a global organisation, led by individuals who have lived through the struggles of displacement. Many of our team members, including our founders, have experienced statelessness and refugee life firsthand, providing us with unique insights and a deep sense of responsibility to advocate for others in similar situations. Our work is drive by the voices of those who understand the profound challenges of forced displacement and its impact on communities.
Our approach
We believe that those with lived experiences of displacements should be able to contribute in decision makings affecting them.

About Statelessness
Explore answers to the most common questions about our mission and efforts to support displaced communities worldwide.
What is statelessness?
Statelessness refers to the condition of an individual who is not recognized as a citizen by any country. This often means they are denied access to basic rights such as education, healthcare, and employment. Stateless individuals often live in a legal and social limbo, unable to fully participate in society.
Who is a refugee?
A refugee is a person who has fled their country because of fear of persecution, violence, or war. They are unable or unwilling to return home due to the risk of harm. Refugees are granted special protections under international law.
What is displacement?
A displaced person is someone who has been forced to flee their home due to war, persecution, or disaster. Displacement can be internal (within a country) or international (across borders). However, these individuals still often face the challenge of being excluded from societies that do not recognize their status.
What are the current challenges faced by displaced communities?
Displaced communities face challenges such as lack of access to education, healthcare, and employment, as well as the risk of exploitation and discrimination.
Why should this matter to you?
Citizenship is more than just a legal status—it’s the foundation of identity, security, and opportunity. Without it, stateless and displaced people are denied basic rights like education, healthcare, and the ability to work. They live in uncertainty, often invisible to society and vulnerable to exploitation.
How does Right to Belong advocate for policy changes?
We engage with policymakers and stakeholders to promote reforms that ensure the rights and recognition of displaced individuals globally.
Our mission
We advocate for the rights and dignity of displaced individuals, including refugees and stateless persons. Our work is rooted in the belief that no one should be forced to live without the basic rights and security that come with belonging to a community or a nation
